Including Dominance Effects in the Genomic BLUP Method for Genomic Evaluation

We evaluated the performance of GBLUP including dominance genetic effect (GBLUP-D) by estimating variances and predicting genetic merits in a computer simulation and 2 actual traits (T4 and T5) in pigs. In simulation data, GBLUP-D explained more than 50% of dominance genetic variance. Moreover, GBLUP-D yielded estimated total genetic effects over 1.2% more accurate than those yielded by GBLUP. ...

Running head : Single - step genomic BLUP for Angus Genetic evaluation using single - step genomic BLUP in American Angus

Predictive ability of genomic EBV when using single-step genomic BLUP 1 (ssGBLUP) in Angus cattle was investigated. Over 6 million records were available on birth 2 weight (BW) and weaning weight (WW), almost 3.4 million on post-weaning gain (PWG), and 3 over 1.3 million on calving ease (CE). Genomic information was available on at most 51,883 4 animals, which included high and low EBV accuracy...

Mating programs including genomic relationships and dominance effects.

Computerized mating programs using genomic information are needed by breed associations, artificial-insemination organizations, and on-farm software providers, but such software is already challenged by the size of the relationship matrix. As of October 2012, over 230,000 Holsteins obtained genomic predictions in North America. Efficient methods of storing, computing, and transferring genomic r...

Genetic evaluation using single-step genomic BLUP in American Angus

Introduction Genomic selection in beef cattle has currently been performed with multistep methods, which uses deregressed EBV to estimate SNP effects and then direct genomic value (DGV) for selection candidates based on their genotypes (Meuwissen et al., 2001; Garrick et al., 2009). The main advantage of this approach is that the traditional BLUP evaluation is kept unchanged and genomic selecti...

Improvement of Prediction Ability for Genomic Selection of Dairy Cattle by Including Dominance Effects

Dominance may be an important source of non-additive genetic variance for many traits of dairy cattle. However, nearly all prediction models for dairy cattle have included only additive effects because of the limited number of cows with both genotypes and phenotypes. The role of dominance in the Holstein and Jersey breeds was investigated for eight traits: milk, fat, and protein yields; product...
